Newly manufactured CHROME LINED barrel with original German or Yugo barrel collar installed and properly headspaced.
Barrel Material: CrMoV - GBQ
Commonly called "CMV"
This durable material was imported from a specialty steel manufacturer in Germany and is well suited for machine guns. It is also certified to meet MIL-B-11595E specification for US military gun barrels.
Headspace is set to the 7.62 NATO spec. We can do the tighter .308 spec upon request. We use a slightly tighter than average NOS M53 bolt head as a standard to ensure that just about any M53 or MG42 bolt will fall in the useable range.
**Notes on MG42/59 Bolts:
- We’ve found that these are typically .005" ‘tighter’ on the headspace compared to standard Yugo M53 and MG42 bolts. To achieve the same specifications, we typically have to add 1-2 barrel timing shims to the collar to achieve the same measurement.
- The locking roller diameters on the MG42/59 bolt are typically .003" larger than the standard Yugo M53 and MG42. Sometimes these rollers won't even fit into the locking surfaces of some collars. As with any bolt/barrel setup, fit and headspace should be inspected.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR HEADSPACE:
It’s very important to verify headspace with the specific bolt, barrel, and type of ammo you are using (7.62 vs .308 Win.). Headspace that is too short can result in very dangerous out-of-battery detonations.

Here's some good additional info:
Conversion Info
MG42 7.62 NATO Conversion Info
Bolt: 8mm bolts work with the 7.62 NATO/308 conversion top covers and barrels. Remember: Original 8mm bolts work with both 8mm and 7.62 NATO/308 ammo while the MG3 bolts and extractor sets only work with 7.62 NATO/308 ammo.
Booster: Typically the regular 8mm booster set provides enough energy to cycle 7.62. If you have the enlarged Yugo booster with short barrel sleeve you may need to switch out to the standard German setup. Just replacing the barrel sleeve or booster from an 8mm or 7.62 German setup should give you enough energy to cycle the gun. The longer German barrel sleeve and smaller diameter booster cone hole are designed to trap more pressure in the booster assembly and push harder on the front of the barrel to actuate the short recoil system.
Feed: There are several top cover and feed tray setups that can be used to convert from 8mm to 7.62 NATO. (see below)
Belt Info: The 7.62 NATO case is slightly larger than the 8mm case, so these belt tend to hold 7.62 NATO ammo too tight.
- German 7.62 NATO belts work for both 8mm and 7.62 NATO
- Pre-1941 German solid / loose-type belts work or both 8mm and 7.62 NATO
- Late-War "low friction" Pattern and Yugo 8mm belts work for 8mm.

308 Barrel w/feed tray spacer
Swapped out my 8mm barrel with one of these and added the feed tray spacer. Didn't change anything else.. Also used the original 8mm links. Not a single issue. Every single round (Lake City 7.62) functioned perfectly.
