Product Description
New Production - copied exactly from an original part. Barrel sleeve not included (shown in top picture for reference only)
This is the hardened version.
The original MG42 bushings were hardened to 50 RC surface, however, a hard surface is not required for proper function or durability of this part. Depending on the method of installation an unhardened front bushing would be preferable since it will not fracture when subjected to compression or crimping, though it may deform. The hardened version would be preferable for welding and installation methods that won't subject the sides to excessive force.
Both are made from low carbon steel similar to the receiver and they weld nicely together if extra strength is desired. In the original MG42 we have observed crimping and rolling/coining methods for attaching this part (pictured below). We have also seen reinforcement welds added to each method on many original guns.
